Elk Island National Park – home of the Beezon

May 18, 2009

Elk Island 1 I was lucky enough to travel with my gf to Elk Island National Park.
Elk Island is located 50km East of Edmonton.
It is the only national park in Canada that is entirely fenced in.

It claims to have:
1000 Canadian Beavers
950 Elk
770 Plains/Wood Bisons  or Buffalo’s
400 Moose

Elk Island 2

Just to name a few of the species.

We happened to travel to Elk Island on a rainy day so we were only able to spot some Beezons hopefully next time I hope to see a giant
moose! Also, it seems like a great place to camp or a easy place to take a day trip to have a BBQ as they provide free firewood for the fire-pits!

Looks like i’ll be heading back at least one more time this summer!
